Next year is the 30th anniversary for Square Enix’s Dragon Quest role-playing game franchise, and the company is celebrating by releasing one of the few spin-offs in the series, Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below, coming to PS4 later this October.
The upgraded port of a PlayStation Portable game came to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in March, and is now moving to PC as Square Enix and other publishers continue to find success with ports on the platform.
Nobuo Uematsu is forever linked with the Final Fantasy franchise. He created numerous, iconic tracks for the role-playing series, and now we get to hear his main theme for Heavensward, the first expansion for the massively multiplayer role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
Square Enix announced this week that it plans to release a new game in its Kingdom Hearts role-playing franchise on mobile devices later this year in Japan, with a vision for an overseas release. Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ (pronounced “qui”) will be a free-to-play title for iOS and Android devices, with paid items and elements.
Still, it’s likely we’ll see the 3DS version in other territories. Square Enix has been pretty good making sure every territory gets these Dragon Quest re-releases. Dragon Quest VIII itself just saw a port to mobile that came out worldwide. Nintendo DS remakes of Dragon Quest IV, V, and VI also all came out in our territory.
