Supergiant teases technical test for Hades II ahead of early access launch

Supergiant Games today gave an update on its in-development roguelike title, Hades II. According to the developer, it’s due to launch very soon, however they want to have a technical test for the game and have offered users the chance to participate via Steam.

“A key step prior to that is our Hades II Technical Test, which we plan to begin shortly,” said the developer on X. According to the FAQ on the game’s Steam page, it’s intended to test the game’s limitations with a relatively small audience, in order to ensure the early access launch goes as smoothly as possible.

At the moment, the early access release date for Hades is set in the Q2 2024 window, which is right now. The game is a sequel to the wildly popular Hades, and follows former protagonist Zagreus’s sister, Melinoe. She’s on a quest to free their father, the titular god of the Underworld, from the clutches of grandfather Cronos, the god of time. She’s assisted in this by the goddesses Hecate and Nemesis.

According to the FAQ, the test will run for some time shorter than a month, and only after it’s completed will Supergiant give an early access release date. The test includes, “the first major area of the game, and other early-game characters, systems, and content.” The game discourages testers from overplaying these first sections in lieu of waiting for early access.
