StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void sells 1M copies in 24 hours

Blizzard Entertainment said today that more than 1 million people have purchased StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void in its first 24 hours on sale.

The PC sci-fi real-time strategy game expansion is the long-awaited finale in the StarCraft II story. Legacy of the Void is perhaps one of the biggest PC games in a holiday season that is filled with new console and computer releases. Its single-player campaign wraps up 17 years of story in a series that has become a huge part of video game pop culture.

Legacy of the Void is a standalone release, where you don’t have to already own StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, which came out in 2010, or its first expansion, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, which debuted in 2013. But it sure helps to know the backstory, as it’s a complicated narrative. At a time when the consoles are cranking out big titles for the fall, Legacy of the Void is an important release (along with Fallout 4) for the tens of millions of fans of PC gaming, as it will keep them loyal to the platform that represents the leading edge of gaming and technology.

Blizzard said it will keep the enthusiasm going with more mission packs coming.

StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void is off to a good start.
