Star Wars is the big addition to Disney Infinity 3.0

One of the most popular toy merchandising properties of all time is about to go interactive.

Disney Infinity 3.0 includes characters from the Star Wars universe, according to the cover reveal for the latest Game Informer magazine. This means you’ll have the chance to play with characters from the classic films like Luke and Leia alongside previously released Disney Infinity interactive action figures such as Captain America and Pirates of the Caribbean‘s Jack Sparrow. Dolls that work with video games is one of the biggest categories at toy stores, and bringing in Star Wars — the property that arguably shaped the modern toy landscape — should help Disney’s take on the “toys-to-life” market find even more success.

Publisher Activision’s Skylanders franchise, which effectively invented interactive gaming toys, has already made more than $2 billion since debuting in 2011.

The timing of Disney Infinity 3.0 with Star Wars makes a lot of sense considering the next film in the franchise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, debuts in December. This is the first new entry in the series since 2005’s Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Here are the confirmed characters so far:

  • Luke Skywalker
  • Leia Organa
  • Han Solo
  • Chewbacca
  • Darth Vader
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Yoda
  • Darth Maul
  • Anakin Skywalker
  • Ahsoka Tano

Game Informer published a video about the game, which you can watch below:

Star Wars isn’t the only thing new coming to Disney Infinity 3.0. The publisher has brought on board two new developers to help flesh out some of the game’s mechanics. While Avalanche, the studio that built the first two games, is still in charge, it is now working with DMC: Devil May Cry developer Ninja Theory on the combat and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing developer Sumo Digital on the driving portions.

This should make those droid fight-and-racing tournaments I’m planning on running out of my living room a lot more fun.
