Nintendo’s colorful team shooter Splatoon 2 is getting some new stages and looks. Some of the updates will unlock on November 23, while others will roll out beginning November 24. This content is free for folks who already own the game, which is available on the Nintendo Switch for $60.
Splatoon 2 topped the best seller charts when it debuted earlier this year in July, and it received generally favorable scores according to Metacritic. This is despite some hiccups with the Nintendo app, which struggles with creating custom groups so that people can join multiplayer matches with their friends.
On November 23, Splatoon 2’s Salmon Run mode will get a fourth stage: Salmonid Smokeyard. Players will also be able to customize their characters with additional accessories, including 140 new gear and four new hairstyles. Nintendo is also raising the level cap to 99 and adding new battle music. Once the update rolls out on Thursday, players will be able to take photos in-game by tapping a Splatoon 2 Amiibo and they’ll also be able to swap gear without going to the lobby.
The first new battle stage, MakoMart, will become available on November 24. Over the next few weeks, three other battle stages will launch: Walleye Warehouse, Arowana Mall, and Shellendorf Institute. In December, a new Clam Blitz mode will debut, which will task players with scooping up clams from around the map and trying to dunk them in the opponent’s basket.
