Sony sues Tencent for allegedly copying Horizon series with Light of Motiram game

Sony has sued Chinese game and social media company Tencent for alleged copyright infringement, saying the company ripped off its Horizon adventure games.

In a lawsuit filed on Friday, the Japanese game giant accused Tencent of violating trademarks and copyrights with its upcoming Light of Motiram game, Reuters said in a report.

Sony said the game ” is a “slavish clone” of its games that copies several details of the Horizon game series. We’re awaiting comment from Tencent.

Sony released Horizon: Zero Dawn on the PS4 in 2017. Horizon: Forbidden West came out in 2022, Horizon: Call of the Mountain debuted in 2023 on PSVR 2 and Lego Horizon Adventures debuted in 2024.

Sony said the Tencent game has identical gameplay, story themes and artistic elements. Sony Interactive Entertainment filed the lawsuit against Tencent Holdings in U.S. District Court in San Francisco.
