Confirming a report in Bloomberg, Sony has acknowledged it has shut down Bluepoint Games.

The studio was known for its remasters of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls. It will close in March with 70 jobs eliminated.

“Following a recent business review, the decision was made to close Bluepoint Games in March,” a Sony representative told other press. “Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity, and craftsmanship.”

There have been bigger layoffs, but this one is creating consternation because the studio had a history of doing excellent remasters. It started in 2006 and created the PlayStation 3 remasters of God of War and God of War 2. It also created the 2020 remaster of Demon’s Souls for the PlayStation 5.

Sony acquired Bluepoint in 2021, and it put it on as a co-developer for God of War: Ragnarok. Then Sony assigned the studio to take it into the live services era and online gaming with the multiplayer version of God of War. That game was canceled, and in the wake of that move, Bluepoint was shut down.
