LOS ANGELES — A white version of PlayStation 4 is somehow more exciting than early access to one of the year’s most-anticipated games.

Today, Sony announced at its Electronic Entertainment Expo media briefing that PlayStation 4 owners will get to play Destiny first. Well, the Destiny beta, anyway, which PS4 owners can download July 17. However, the alpha test (which is like a beta, but, you know, alpha) will start this Thursday.

Oddly, however, the announcement of a PlayStation 4/Destiny bundle actually got the best response from the press conference crowd. That’s probably because it comes with a white system, which is a welcome contrast to the black casing of every modern console. The bundle will be available on Sep. 9.

Destiny is also coming out on the Xbox One, but it didn’t make an appearance at Microsoft’s press conference earlier today.
