Sid Meier’s Starships goes beyond Civilization: Beyond Earth

Sid Meier isn’t done with space.

The famed game designer released Civilization: Beyond Earth, a sci-fi take on his long-running turn-based strategy series, last year. Now he’s following it up with Sid Meier’s Starships, a new turn-based game about a fleet of spaceships journeying across the stars to seek out other colonies of Earth refugees. Beyond Earth was about starting a new human colony on an alien planet, so Starships seems like the logical next step.

“My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration,” Meier said in a press release sent to GamesBeat.

Starships will be a digital download for PC, Mac, and iPad this spring. It will feature some form of cross-connectivity with Civilization: Beyond Earth. You can check out the first trailer below:
