See Master Chief's (boyhood) face in the live-action Halo 4 trailer

Halo 4 is about to launch, and Microsoft knows how to spend a marketing budget.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director David Fincher produced this live-action Halo 4 launch trailer. Tim Miller, his visual-effects lead on that same film, directed the short film. Halo 4 is a first-person shooter from 343 Industries. It’s due out Nov. 6 exclusively on Xbox 360 for $59.99. Watch the trailer, titled Scanned, below:

The video begins with game’s hero, Master Chief, in some type of energy restraints. An enemy enters the frame and scans (oh, I get it!) the hero, and then we’re whipped through several tidbits of Master Chief’s life. We see him as a boy on the beach (where we can see his face) and in different phases of his transformation into the enhanced supersoldier that he eventually becomes.

The trailer ends with an enemy landing on Master Chief and taking him hostage, which is apparently how he ended up in the energy restraints in the first place.

We’ll have more on Halo 4’s launch, including an extensive review, in the coming weeks.
