Overworld raises $10M to create anime-inspired free-to-play ARPG

Overworld, the developer partnered with blockchain games publisher Xterio, announced today that it has raised $10 million in a seed funding round. The studio is working on its first game, also temporarily named Overworld, a web3 free-to-play action-RPG with anime-inspired artwork that runs on the Xterio ecosystem.

Jeremy Horn, Xterio’s COO, spoke to GamesBeat in an interview about what kind of game Overworld will be, and what games inspired its gameplay. “There’s this focus on short gameplay loops that are highly replayable. We want the players to build characters, defeat enemies, collect resources, come back to a hub and craft, etc. We’re taking a lot of inspiration from what’s been successful today. There’s a huge opportunity in an anime-inspired space, which is largely untapped in the West.”
