Quarterly sales for the first fiscal quarter ended June 30 were 572.363 billion yen, up 132% from 246.638 billion a year earlier. Profit for the quarter was 96.032 billion yen, up 18.6% from 80.954 billion yen a year earlier.
Presumably, the strong sales of 5.82 million Switch 2 units in the first couple of months drove the sales increase, but since hardware carries a lot of costs, the profits didn’t rise by the same percentage. Still, it’s a great start for the new hardware.
In the seven weeks after launch, sell-through for the Switch 2 crossed six million units. Demand is exceeding supply in many countries. Annual playing users has crossed 128 million players.
Nintendo Switch 2 software sales reached 8.67 million units. In addition, Nintendo Switch hardware sales totaled 0.98 million units, and Nintendo Switch software sales totaled
24.40 million units.
Nintendo had previously said Switch 2 sales were off to a good start, with 3.5 million sold in the first four days. Nintendo made no changes to its previous forecast in May.
Regarding Nintendo Switch 2 software, Mario Kart World, which was released on the same day as the hardware launch, recorded sales of 5.63 million units, including units bundled with the hardware. Given that consumers can play both Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive software and Nintendo Switch software with Nintendo Switch 2, titles released for Nintendo Switch in previous fiscal years such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party Jamboree, also sold well.
Nintendo’s digital business for the dedicated video game platforms, digital sales totaled 69.8 billion yen, down 13.5% year-on year, mainly due to a decrease in sales of downloadable versions of packaged software for Nintendo Switch. In the IP related business, sales came to 16.7 billion yen, down 4.4% year-on-year, mainly due to a decrease in movie-related revenue.
For Nintendo Switch 2 software, following the release of Donkey Kong Bananza and Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV in July, the company plans to release Drag x Drive and Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World in August.
In October, Nintendo is planning to release Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch
2 Edition, as well as a Nintendo Switch 2 hardware bundle that includes this title. There is also a wide variety of titles from other software publishers scheduled to be released. The firm will aim to maximize software sales by maintaining the momentum of Mario Kart
World, which has gotten off to a strong start, and by continuously introducing these new titles.

In the previous quarter, Nintendo reported that its full-year sales declined 30.3% to 1.164.9 billion yen, thanks to the transition from the Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 game console.
Such a gap in financial performance often happens as a company announces a new console and sales interest dries up for the older machine.
Nintendo’s net profit for the fiscal year ended March 31 was also down 43.2% to 278.8 billion yen, compared with 490.6 billion yen a year earlier. Sales of both Switch hardware and software fell during the 2025 fiscal year.
