Newzoo: Mobile games will make 82% of global app revenues this year

The global mobile app market will generate $44.8 billion in gross revenues in 2016, and 82 percent of that comes from mobile games, according to market researcher Newzoo.

The company said in a report that global app revenue will grow to $80.6 billion by 2020, and game revenue will grow from $36.5 billion in 2016 to $58.1 billion in 2020. By that time, games will be 72 percent of overall revenues. The whole market will see a compound annual growth rate of 17.7 percent from 2015 to 2020. Apple dominates the market with 35 percent of device market share.
