Mother Machine is a co-op roguelike coming to PC and consoles

Indie studio Maschinen-Mensch revealed its latest game upcoming game, called Mother Machine. The title is a co-op roguelike title with platforming mechanics, in which teams of up to four players must navigate a hostile environment with procedurally generated environments. The studio plans to launch the game on PC (with support for Steam Decks) and consoles, aiming for a release window sometime in Q1 2025.

GamesBeat got a chance to see a preview of Mother Machine in action: The player characters are adorably revolting little chaos gremlins spawned from the titular character, a supercomputer abandoned on a planet formerly inhabited by humans. The Mother Machine sends the gremlins out to explore the planet, where they attempt to survive and find out more about their world and their “mother.” The gremlins’ abilities are augmented with a series of mutations allowing players to customize their character.

According to the developers, Mother Machine is built with accessibility in mind — thanks to the procedurally generated areas, players of varying experience levels can team up effectively. The game also features drop-in co-op play, meaning players can join each other’s games at any point.

Riad Djemli, Maschinen-Mensch CEO, said in a statement, “At Maschinen-Mensch, crafting games with innovative procedural gameplay is in our DNA. Following the success of Curious Expedition 1 and 2, our team has grown to over 20 very talented individuals. Now, we’re excited to bring our unique approach to the action-RPG genre with our new IP, Mother Machine. We can’t wait to share this new adventure with our community.”
