Mojang used its annual Minecraft Live showcase to announce a flood of new content coming soon.

The stream revealed that The Copper Age update will launch September 30, confirmed details about the upcoming Mounts of Mayhem expansion, and spotlighted two surprising announcements: a conservation-themed Friendly Fishing add-on and a collaboration with Dragon Ball Z.

Minecraft: The Copper Age

The Copper Age is the next major game update for Minecraft, centered around expanding copper into a full progression tier. Players will be able to craft copper weapons, armor, and tools that sit between stone and iron in strength. Copper horse armor will also let mounts gear up in style.

The headline addition is the copper golem, which was a fan-favorite mob concept that originally lost a community vote but is now being added for the first time. Copper golems act as organization-minded companions that sort items through new copper chests, eventually turning into statues as they oxidize. Players can “wake” them again by scraping off patina or preserve them indefinitely with wax. Their statues even emit unique redstone signals, opening creative doors for builders.

Other features include oxidizing lightning rods, decorative copper lanterns, torches, chains and bars, as well as shelves, which are new blocks that double as both display space and a quick inventory swap system. Mojang has also refreshed dye icons for accessibility, making them more distinct in the inventory.

Mounts of Mayhem

Mojang also revealed the title of the game’s next drop, Mounts of Mayhem, coming during the holiday season. The update will introduce the spear, a weapon that scales its damage with movement speed, and the nautilus, a ridable underwater creature that helps preserve oxygen while exploring the oceans.

Players can also expect to encounter hostile variants such as drowned riding zombie nautilus, as well as the long-awaited return of zombie horses in Survival mode. Nautilus armor in multiple materials will let players customize their new aquatic mounts.

Friendly Fishing launches today

Available immediately in the Minecraft Marketplace, Friendly Fishing is a new add-on created in partnership with Conservation International. The expansion introduces dozens of new fish species, custom mechanics, and undersea structures to explore, but also highlights environmental themes. Players will haul up not just tuna and sharks, but also discarded plastic waste, tying gameplay to real-world conservation efforts.

Microsoft is pledging $100,000 plus all net proceeds from the add-on’s first three months of sales to Conservation International.

Minecraft remains one of the world’s most valuable gaming IPs, with more than 300 million copies sold and a community that spans generations. These announcements underscore Mojang’s multipronged strategy: expanding core survival features (The Copper Age), teasing long-term roadmaps (Mounts of Mayhem), experimenting with educational and philanthropic content (Friendly Fishing), and tapping into pop culture crossovers (Dragon Ball Z).

The decision to bring back the copper golem, a previously rejected mob vote candidate, also reflects Mojang’s willingness to respond to community sentiment, something that could help maintain player trust as Minecraft approaches its 15th anniversary.
