After more than a decade building VR, Meta said today it will launch its Meta VR Glasses in the spring of 2027 for $1,300.
Meta said it is its most most advanced device yet, delivering a cinema, courtside seat, workspace, and console, all in a pair of glasses that weigh about 100 grams.
VR Glasses will also bring new gaming experiences, including more than 75 games at launch that you can play solely with hand gestures. It will also have Xbox Cloud Gaming to bring hundreds of streamed games to the device.
At Meta Connect 2026, Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlined Meta’s vision for the next generation of computing: personal AI agents that work for everyone, paired with devices that let people connect with them anywhere. (See how Meta is getting its data center capacity for devices like this here).
The device uses a “breakthrough glasses-like form factor,” with no straps or heavy hardware on your face. The open sides and passthrough camera keep you aware of what’s happening nearby. You can wear Meta VR Glasses to comfortably watch a full movie, or get things done on a portable, private screen during a long flight, while maintaining a sense of the world around you. The only reality dragging it down: it’s connected to another device for power, compute and storage.
Designed for Comfort, Clarity, and Power
Meta VR Glasses are five times lighter than Meta Quest 3, primarily because of the two-part system. The VR Glasses handle the sensors and display. Their magnesium alloy construction provides rigidity and strength, and helps keep everything cool. The puck, connected by an optical tether, handles compute, battery, and storage, and clips to your pocket or bag.
Meta VR Glasses feature a 5K Infinite Display built on micro-OLED panels, with 37 pixels per degree, delivering clarity sharp and detail — great for text legibility. The ultra-compact pancake lenses built specifically for this device are the reason cinema-grade clarity can live in something that looks like glasses. With Dolby Vision, you’ll see every scene come alive with ultra-vivid color, sharp contrast, and lifelike detail, and support for Dolby Atmos immersive spatial audio is integrated directly into the frames.

Meta will integrate your Meta AI agent directly into the operating system. You can just talk to Meta VR Glasses or use your eyes and natural hand gestures to do things like play a movie, open an app, adjust your workspace, or search for whatever you’re looking for. No controllers needed.
Meta VR Glasses are powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, enabling an exceptionally high-performance experience, fast load times, and breakthrough efficiency. The battery on the puck delivers up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback, and supports 45W fast charging.
Immersive Entertainment
Meta said it is working with partners across the industry to make Meta VR Glasses the most versatile screen you’ll ever own. It’s the first IMAX Enhanced certified VR device ever and will be one of the only ways to experience select films in IMAX’s exclusive expanded aspect ratio at home.
Meta said it is joining with Disney on 3D experiences. In November, Disney+ subscribers can start streaming movies like Marvel’s The Avengers, Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, and more in 3D in select countries, with themed immersive viewing environments like Tatooine, Avengers Tower, and Scare Floor.

Meta will also have new films coming in new formats where the space around you becomes part of the storytelling. When Meta VR Glasses launch in the spring, you can watch VR Enhanced versions of iconic films like Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: A New Hope in the new Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM app. Your surroundings will be transformed with immersive environments, dynamic effects, stunning 3D visuals, and spatial audio to feel like you’re not just watching a scene, but living inside it.
Popular streamers will be available through the TV app. Meta is working with partners across the industry, including Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex, Tubi, and more, to provide the best media lineup of any VR device. Peacock, HBO Max, and Paramount+ are also offering their 3D media catalogs for the very first time.
For a greater breadth of 2D and 3D cinema, you’ll be able to rent or buy hundreds of movies later this year on Meta Quest in the US. The library will keep growing, with thousands of titles available internationally by Meta VR Glasses’ launch, including 3D favorites from Lionsgate. Meta is also partnering with director James Cameron and Lightstorm Vision to debut “first time in 3D” blockbusters in 2027.
Plus, all your favorite sports apps, like NBA, MLB, and ESPN are here. Meta is working with ESPN to give you “Immersive Sports” with a front-row seat, 8K streaming, and 180-degree views, starting with college football this year on Meta Quest and more sports to come in 2027. Once Meta VR Glasses launch, we’ll have over 100 immersive live sports events to watch each year from the best seat in the house, thanks to our partners at MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, and UFC.

Meta announced new titles in immersive formats from renowned filmmakers, athletes, and studios uniquely supported by our platform. Launching on September 29, Open Season gives you a seat in the room with four-time NBA champion Draymond Green as he goes to therapy during his 2025-2026 season.
This is followed by Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour, the concert film co-directed by Billie Eilish and James Cameron, exclusively available to buy and rent in 3D on Quest this November. We’re teaming up with filmmaker Matthew Vaughn on his upcoming action movie Stuntnuts, with a 3D version launching exclusively next year. And the new National Geographic: Beyond app, with extraordinary 180-degree 3D access, brings you closer to the grandeur of African wildlife and the natural world.
This is just the beginning, with new 3D movies releasing every month, new immersive sporting events available throughout the year, and new partner experiences dropping regularly, Meta said.
A Versatile, Next-Gen Computing Platform
Meta VR Glasses give you a massive screen — or several if you want — anywhere you are, giving you a personal, private place to work. Turn any table or desk into a surface keyboard and touchpad, so you can type out a reply without carrying extra hardware.
To go deeper, you have the option to connect your Mac or Windows PC wirelessly or over USB-C. Pick up right where you left off on these screens, and bring your own keyboard and mouse. With full-color passthrough, you can still see your keyboard, desk, mobile phone, and surroundings while you work.
VR Glasses will also bring new gaming experiences, including more than 75 games at launch that you can play solely with hand gestures. Enjoy full access to the entire Meta Quest catalog of thousands of titles, and full compatibility with Touch Plus controllers.
With Xbox Cloud Gaming, you can stream hundreds of games directly to your VR Glasses — just connect a Bluetooth gamepad and you’re good to go. Or connect to your handheld gaming device wirelessly or via USB-C to play on a big screen.

Be Present with Hologram, Wherever You Are
Meta is introducing hologram technology to provide a photorealistic digital version of you, including your real-time expressions and reactions, for hands-free video calling on Meta VR Glasses.
When you see someone’s hologram in Meta VR Glasses, they appear in front of you with spatial audio placing their voice where they are, so it feels like you’re right across from them. If others are joining a call from a mobile phone or computer, they see your hologram on their screen as well. It works with whichever calling app you’re using, from WhatsApp to Zoom.
This will help you catch up with family across the country, join a meeting from the road, or celebrate a friend’s birthday like you’re in the room. The people you care about see you — present and expressive — whatever device they’re on, however far away.

Coming Spring 2027
Meta VR Glasses put a personal cinema, a courtside seat, a multi-screen workspace, and a gaming console in one device that fits in your bag. Meta VR Glasses are on sale Spring 2027 for $1,300.
