“The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia,” a 248-page comprehensive guide to Nintendo’s popular video game series, has shot to No. 1 on Amazon’s Top 100 list in less than 24 hours.
Publisher Dark Horse Comics confirmed the news today. At the time of the email, the book sat right below E L James’s controversial Fifty Shades of Grey on Amazon’s best-sellers chart. Now it’s rocketed to the top spot.
The hardcover contains new concept art, a complete history of the Hyrule kingdom, “the official chronology” of the games, and more. Producer and game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the long-running franchise, provides the introduction.
In addition, Akira Himekawa, who has illustrated 10 volumes of The Legend of Zelda manga from Viz Media, is contributing an exclusive comic to the book. Himekawa’s final submission, published in 2010, recapped the events of Phantom Hourglass for Nintendo DS.
Dark Horse noted that the cover (partially pictured above) on its product page is not the final version and only used it for solicitations.
The book’s rise on Amazon isn’t surprising, given the franchise’s popularity. Its $20.99 price — compared to the regular list price of $34.99 — no doubt helped push sales…well, skyward.
