Huckabee, Space Marines, and Kids

Today he'll announce his plans to run for President, but tomorrow he may be running from Games Workshop.

Republican Mike Huckabee’s new company, “Learn Our History: Take Pride in America’s Past” might be facing allegations of copyright infringement.  Early this May, his new education company released a series of preview videos for the DVD on Youtube. The animated videos follow a group of children getting mugged by an African American male, riding bikes to escape the Pearl Harbor bombings, and attending a speech by former President Ronald Reagan.  You can view the now unlisted video here.

Mike Huckabee is to announce his run for President  today at 8 p.m. ET on his television program.

Two of the videos have a child wearing a red space marine helmet, one of the memorable factions in the Warhammer 40,000 table top board game.  Beginning in 1987, the game has remained immensely popular, making appearances in novels and popular video games like the  PC title Dawn of War II. When contacted on the issue, Andrew Hall of Games Workshop said: “I have forwarded this on to our legal department.”

Well, at least the eyes aren't green.

According to the company’s May 12th press release, the videos are “…the adventures of the Time Travel Academy, a group of friends who use a homemade time machine to travel back in time to relive America's history as it happened. The Time Travel Academy video series gives kids the chance to learn about America's most important historical events and figures in a fun and engaging way, free from the political-correctness and personal bias that has seeped into classrooms.”

When asked, spokeswoman Kirsten Fedewa of “Learn Our History” declined to give the animation studios name.  Within five hours of speaking to her, comments have been disabled from the Youtube videos, many of them making reference to the GamesWorkshop intellectual property. She has yet to reply to emails.

Update: Video is now unlisted, added an alternative link to it.
