French studio Sloclap recently launched its third title, a soccer/football game called Rematch. At face value, this seemed like an odd choice for the studio. Both of its previous titles, including the critically acclaimed Sifu, were action games with an emphasis on combat and fluid movement. Going over to a sports title seemed like an unusual shift in direction. However, as Sloclap has shown, both in the gameplay and in speaking with GamesBeat, this transition actually made perfect sense for them.
Rematch launched in early access last June, as a multiplayer online title. Players control one player and compete in 5v5 games pitting their team against another. There’s no way for players to “upgrade” their characters, and success in a match depends on their ability to handle the ball with dribbles, tackles and passes; as well as their ability to coordinate with other team members.
