‘Fight Club’ director producing Halo 4 launch trailer

The Master Chief is in the makeup chair preparing for his big moment: A Golden Globe-winning director and a special-effects guru are going to give the mechanized space marine the Hollywood treatment.

Microsoft and 343 Industries announced today that it brought on Fight Club and The Social Network director David Fincher to executive produce a new launch trailer for the Xbox 360 first-person sci-fi shooter Halo 4. Tim Miller, Fincher’s visual-effects lead on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, directs the live-action trailer. This video debuts on the Oct. 18 episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Microsoft is set to release Halo 4 on Nov. 6.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to direct the Halo 4 launch trailer in creative partnership with 343 Industries and David Fincher,” Miller said in a press release. “Halo is one of the most iconic sci-fi universes, with a depth that allows for amazingly cinematic and emotionally riveting stories. The chance to tell a story that explores never-before-seen facets of Master Chief’s journey is an honor.”

The creative team filmed the trailer, called “Scanned,” in the Czech Republic capital of Prague. The live-action film explores Master Chief’s backstory.

“Our goal is to deliver a blockbuster, Hollywood-quality trailer that raises the bar for the award-winning legacy of live-action Halo storytelling and get fans stoked for the return of Master Chief, ” Miller said.

We’ll have the trailer once it’s online.

In the meantime, let’s hope this Halo trailer is better than the live-action Metroid Prime one created by Dark City and The Crow director Alex Proyas:
