Demon's Souls

Don’t hang up that dented armor just yet. The North American servers for Atlus‘ cruelty-machine Demon’s Souls will stay on for the foreseeable future.

In a statement released today, the publisher took an about-face from its planned May 31 shutdown of the role-playing game’s online support which enabled heroes access to cooperative and competitive play within other gamers’ single-player worlds. This is the second server extension for the nearly three-year-old title after Atlus pushed ahead from the original September 2011 closure date. Just like Souls’ monstrous denizens, the servers seemingly won’t go down easily.

“While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon’s Souls,” said Atlus vice president of marketing and sales Tim Pivnicny.

Requests for clarification from Atlus resulted in no further information as of press time.
