Curt Schilling’s online game firm 38 Studios considers $75M loan incentive from Rhode Island

Curt Schilling’s Maynard, MA-based 38 Studios, which makes massively multiplayer online games, will meet with Rhode Island’s Economic Development Corporation to discuss a possible $75 million loan, should the studio move its headquarters to Rhode Island. Schilling, the former Boston Red Sox pitcher, is personally impressed with Rhode Island.

Curt Schilling’s extensive baseball career afforded him the opportunity to start up a development studio back in 2006. 38 Studios has been primarily funded on Shilling’s earnings, estimated at over $114 million dollars. Canada’s provincial governments have long used financial incentives to lure game companies, but U.S. states are only beginning to do so. See Industry Gamers for more.
