The mechanic of Atlas' character plays with that trickery found in the story of Hercules' twelve labors, when Atlas tried to con Hercules' into taking the weight of the world off his shoulders. Atlas tricks the player into feeling a sense of comeradery, until you find out he is using you for personal gain.

Virtually every game you can purchase on Steam has a bunch of Achievements you can unlock, and a large part of the Xbox Live infrastructure is built upon their completion. Gamers compare scores and focus on completely finishing a game up to the 1,000 point mark.

I’ve been a member of the Xbox LIVE service for 5 years now and 90% of it has been perfect. Playing with friends, screaming profanities at each other, and cursing the hell out of that guy who decides to make fun of us for no reason. It’s fun and definitely worth the $50(soon to be $60) a year.
