Cartoon Network has announced a new version of its free iOS app that will allow users to simultaneously play games and watch videos on the iPad.

The update, Cartoon Network 2.0, is currently available for iPod, iPhone, and iPad and features content from shows like Ben 10, Regular Show, and Adventure Time. Holding your iPad in landscape mode lets you watch movies or play games, and holding it in portrait mode splits the screen across the middle so you can play a game on the bottom half while a show plays up top. You can see how it works in the below video.

Another new feature is DNA Lab, which incentivizes users’ overstimulation by letting them “build virtual collector cards from resources they earn by watching episodes and playing games in the app,” the press release says.

“In continuing our efforts to make sure our viewers are enjoying Cartoon Network content, whenever and wherever, it is always our goal to make their experience unique and exciting,” said Stuart Snyder, president and chief operating officer for Turner’s Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media division. “Cartoon Network 2.0 is an innovative and fun new enhancement to the Cartoon Network app that is like no other in the marketplace.”

You might be wondering how this is any different from playing a game on your iPad while watching TV. Well…this is an app.
