In a sales result that surprises few, Black Ops 7 topped the U.S. sales charts for November, according to industry-tracking firm Circana. This marks the 18th consecutive year that a Call of Duty game has hit the top of the charts on its launch months. That said, the game didn’t make as big of a splash as competitor Battlefield 6, which still holds steady at the top of the year-to-date best-seller list.

That said, neither game appears to have moved the needle of total video game sales, which dropped by 4% compared with the previous year. Mat Piscatella, Circana’s senior director of video games, said in statement, “Declines across hardware, accessories and console content were among the drivers of November 2025 total projected US spending
on video game hardware, content and accessories falling 4% when compared to a year ago, to $5.9 billion.”

Hardware spending, in particular, has plummeted compared with the previous year, down 27% over last year. Piscatella said, “This is the lowest video game hardware spending total for a November month since the $455M reached during the November 2005 tracking period.” Circana’s report notes that 1.6 million units of hardware sold across all platforms in the U.S., the lowest for a November since 1995.

Other games that don’t appear on the sales charts have also made a splash on Circana’s engagement tracker — notably, ARC Raiders, which led in monthly active users on Steam for the month.

As stated, Black Ops 7 has made it to the top of the November sales charts, edging out Battlefield 6 from last month’s triumph. The sales pattern — Black Ops 7 first, Battlefield 6 second — continued across PlayStation, Xbox and PC-specific sales charts. That said, it’s not as much of a lead as Activision would perhaps like. Piscatella noted, “The franchise experienced a double-digit percentage full game dollar sales decline when compared to November 2024.”

The only other November games to make it onto Circana’s top 20 were Kirby Air Riders and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. Nintendo games seem to draw from a different well than the average Call of Duty game, so it’s not much of a surprise that they do well even when the new Black Ops game dominates.

The above list also includes some games that have moved up from lower rankings, including Forza Horizon 5 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The former launched on PlayStation 5 earlier this year, boosting its profile, and also went on discount recently. Similarly, the latter saw a large Black Friday discount that likely saw its sales figures go up.

As noted above, Black Ops 7 topped sales charts for November, but it didn’t quite make it to the rank that Battlefield 6 did. Whereas the latter is at the top of the year-to-date sales charts, Black Ops 7 debuted at 7th place, just above its predecessor, Black Ops 6. The rest of the list has done the usual juggle to make space for the new addition, with NBA 2K25 dropping from the list entirely.
