Battlefield 6 won the figurative arms race against Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 — at least in when it comes to 2025 sales, according to industry-tracking firm Circana. According to the firm’s December and end-of-year sales charts, Battlefield 6 was the best-selling game of 2025, with Black Ops 7 coming in at fifth place on the charts. That said, the latter was the best-selling game of December, the seventh consecutive Call of Duty to achieve that goal.

Considering it covers end-of-year and holiday sales, the December sales chart is surprisingly uncomplicated. The only new game on the list is Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which debuts at a respectable 7th place. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 finished the year on the top of the December chart, meaning it has kept up at least one CoD tradition.

A few other games made it onto the list presumably through holiday sales, such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. The only game that makes an impressive showing is Flight Simulator 2024, which flew from 114th place to 16th thanks to its debut on PlayStation.

The year-end list finally wraps for 2025, and Battlefield 6 is at the top. Piscatella noted on Bluesky: “Battlefield 6 finished as 2025’s best-selling video game in tracked full game dollar sales. Battlefield 6 ranked 1st on both Xbox and the aggregated PC storefronts for the year while placing 2nd on PlayStation behind only NBA 2K26.”

Pokémon Legends: Z-A rose back into the top 20, presumably on the strength of holiday sales. Grand Theft Auto V also returned to the top 20. Games like Ghost of Yotei and Split Fiction held their ground on the list against the onslaught of sports games and first-person shooters. Borderlands 4 also finished in third place, above the newly released Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
