Atari and Plaion today revealed a new console created from their partnership: The Atari 7800+ console, a modernized recreation of the 1986 7800 console. The updated console has HDMI connectivity and comes with a Wireless CX78+ Gamepad, and is also compatible with Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridges. According to Atari, the 7800+ is now available for pre-order with a planned launch date in winter 2024.
In addition to the aforementioned CX78+ controller, Atari and Plaion have also announced the CX40+ Wireless Joystick. The former is a recreation of the 7800’s original controller, while the latter is a recreation of the CX40 joystick. Both connect to the 7800+ and 2600+ wirelessly and are compatible with original 7800 and 2600 hardware via an included adapter. They’re also both PC-compatible.
