New e-sports app gives ‘TheScore’ on League of Legends, Dota 2, and more

E-sports are becoming a huge deal, and now a new app is making them easier to follow.

TheScore eSports showcases breaking news, live scores, video highlights, and stats. It covers popular competitive games like League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, StarCraft II, and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. The app is available now in the Google Play store for Android devices. An iOS release is coming soon.

More than 71 million people watch e-sports, according to eMarketer. The growing market is partly responsible for the success of popular game-streaming sites like Twitch, which Amazon purchased for $970 million.

“The popularity of e-sports continues to show explosive growth and, until now, there has been no clear mobile companion for e-sports fans, with desktop-based online message boards and fan sites being largely relied upon to stay up-to-date,” Benjie Levy, president and chief operating officer of theScore told GamesBeat. “The many millions of e-sports fans worldwide deserve a first-class, professionally supported mobile app, and that’s exactly what theScore e-sports gives them.”

Other apps cover e-sports, including Open eSport, although that one is more of a feed of other sites that cover competitive gaming.
