Everyone knows that people make vodka is Russia, but now they also make Ubisoft games in that country as well.
The publisher is opening a new office in Moscow. This new wing of the giant game-making corporation will serve as an outpost to provide region-specific support for Ubisoft’s games in the growing Russian market. It also plans to use its Moscow division to develop and localize games for audiences in Russia. The company hopes these efforts will help it boost sales in the country. While gaming sales are doing well in traditional markets like the United States, Russia is one of the new emerging powerhouses when it comes to game spending.
“What we’ve seen throughout our time in the region is that Russian players are passionate, vocal, and committed to the games they love,” Ubisoft European director Alain Corre said in a statement. “Establishing an office in Moscow demonstrates our commitment to Russian gamers, and will help us grow in lockstep with this rapidly expanding market.”
Former Electronic Arts Russian business-development boss Olga Lazareva will head up Ubisoft’s new Moscow location.
This latest expansion joins an extensive list of Ubisoft studios and offices around the world. The company has teams in London, Barcelona, China, Abu Dhabi, Japan, and several cities in France, Canada, and the United States. The publisher has used global talent to help it regularly deliver massive hits like Assassin’s Creed on an annual basis, and it likely hopes to use Ubisoft Moscow to continue doing just that.
