In a rare event for consoles, Activision is hosting a free multiplayer demo for the latest entry in its blockbuster Call of Duty franchise this weekend.

This is the first time the series will have a multiplayer demo on the Xbox One or 360. It starts 10 a.m. Pacific on Friday and continues through Monday. Activision has chosen three maps from the first-person shooter for the free weekend — Strikezone, Warhawk, and Prison break. It has also selected three popular modes (Team Deathmatch, Search and Rescue, and Domination). That’s a total of nine combinations, which should give curious players a good idea of Ghosts’ online gameplay.

In addition, the original Point of Contact map of the cooperative Extinction mode will be available, so you can get a taste of blasting away invading aliens in groups of up to four.

All you need to download the demo is an Xbox Live account.
