The Bat is back and ready for some side-scrolling thanks to his upcoming 3DS and Vita game, Batman: Arkham Origins — Blackgate, and now publisher Warner Bros. Interactive is giving all of us a look at the game in action.
WB released a new trailer that sets up the story and shows off some of the gameplay. No surprise, the Dark Knight once again has to go into a prison and fight a bunch of imprisoned supervillains. This time, the action is 2.5D. The visuals are all 3D, but most of the action happens on a 2D, side-scrolling plane.
Blackgate is due out Oct. 25 and is a companion game to Batman: Arkham Origins for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC. Check out the handheld title’s trailer below:

As you can see, developer Armature Studio, which is handling development of Blackgate, is bringing many of the signature elements of the Arkham franchise to its portable release. As Gotham’s greatest detective, gamers can sneak around levels, grapple with enemies, and use Bat-gadgets. Blackgate even features the beloved “free-flow” combat system from the other Arkham games, which Armature rebuilt to optimize the action for the 2D gameplay.
