Gaming loses another print magazine.
Media company UBM Tech announced today that it is shutting down the game industry-focused Game Developer trade magazine. The final regular issue is due out in July. The writing staff will also produce one last Game Career Guide special issue for release at gaming expos and conferences.
UBM plans to continue some of the traditional Game Developer content on sister website Gamasutra.com. Meanwhile, the magazine’s legacy content will slowly move to Gamasutra as well.
As part of this transition, UBM is laying off an unconfirmed number of Game Developer staffers. The restructuring is also affecting Gamasutra, as at least one person unrelated to the magazine reported losing his job.
I didn’t work for Game Developer, but I got hit by the same restructuring, so I’m no longer at Gamasutra.

In addition to Gamasutra and Game Developer magazine, UBM organizes the Game Developers Conference. We’ve contacted the company to determine if this development will have any impact on that industry expo.
