Director’s Cut, Game of The Year Edition, Ultimate Edition call them what you will they can all be referred to as re-releases. Re-releases often include new content not released in the original retail release or DLC that has been released since then. These re-releases can be great for new buyers but bittersweet for people who have already purchased the game.

For example take the recently announced Ultimate Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the U.E. of B:BC2 (how’s that for acronym use?) includes all the free VIP maps that were released and the paid DLC Onslaught mode. A quick search of Amazon has the game listed at $40 (to be fair the MSRP is $59.99). So new purchasers get the game and the DLC that previous purchasers have already invested $70 in. That’s not even one of the worst offenders, Borderlands is soon to see a GoTY release that includes the four packages of DLC that released at $9.99 a piece.

I purchased both titles and the DLC when they released. I don’t regret not waiting around for the re-release, they are both exceptional games. However I do feel like I was kicked in the nuts. The purchasers are the reason these titles sold enough to warrant a re-release. How about throwing the people who made the re-release possible a bone? We payed the money for their success. When games are re-released it would be nice to see a dashboard theme, an avatar item, or better yet a wearable in-game item. I would love the ability to equip my Battlefield combatant in an item that say’s “I’ve been here since day one, so I am probably better than you.”

I don’t think thats to much to ask for. I just wish publishers would show a little love to the people who put the time and money into making the game popular when considering a re-release.
