For a while, the side-scrolling genre seemed ready to lay to rest. But the once-dormant genre was recently revived by Xbox Live Arcade hits like 'Splosion Man and Shadow Complex.

Fans of side-scrollers shouldn't stop rejoicing because a free-to-play Team Fortress 2 mod called The Great Class Dash just became available, and it capitalizes on the genre's most memorable features.

All nine characters make an appearance in this total-conversion mod. From the Scout's double jump to the Demoman's sticky bombs, you'll have access to (almost) every classes' in-game abilities. With several unique environments and a well-adjusted difficulty curve, this game promises to be a big hit within the modding community.

The Great Class Dash first surfaced a few weeks ago in the form of a short trailer. After the game's creator, Dylan "Steaky" Loney, made a few short announcements, he released the game last Friday. If you're curious, check out this gameplay footage prepared by Loney himself [via Kotaku].
