As New Year’s Eve draws closer, you’re no doubt contemplating the parties you’ll attend, the friends you’ll see, and the resolutions you’ll make. But this new year brings added cause for celebration as we turn the corner on another decade.

Crispy Gamer celebrated the impending holiday with a Game of the Decade competition — a cutthroat battle royale among excellent titles which lasted weeks. Ten years of retrospection and more than 35,000 votes later, Crispy Gamer announced the winner; Half-Life 2 pulled ahead of World of Warcraft and its more than 11 million subscribers. The influential first-person shooter won by a margin of just 130 votes (six tenths of a percent). I guess WoW players were too glued to their screens to bother registering for the vote!

Fanyboy-fueled rants of Internet rage will likely continue due to the razor-thin outcome of this competition, but I’m just glad Kingdom Hearts didn’t win. Who in his right mind carries around a key sword, anyway? [via Crispy Gamer]
