Roblox turns Halloween into a nine-night survival event with The Hollow

Join independent journalists and industry decision-makers at GamesBeat NEXT, returning to San Francisco November 2–3. The event brings together 500 executives, founders, investors and tech leaders shaping the $200 billion interactive economy for candid discussions on gaming, entertainment, technology and AI, plus executive networking and opportunities to build partnerships and close major deals.

Roblox is ringing in the Halloween season with some help from the platform’s favorite horror games.

The Hollow, a platform-wide survival event opening Thursday October 22, is bringing monsters from nine popular horror experiences, including The Deer from 99 Nights in the Forest and Seek from Doors, into one shared haunted hub.

The Hollow runs from October 22 through November 2, adding a new monster each day, quests that earn players exclusive rewards, and a live finale on October 31, according to Roblox’s press announcement. The UGC platform says this event marks a celebration of the game’s horror community, as one of the most popular genres on the platform.

Each day for nine days, players entering The Hollow’s event hub will discover a new maze to navigate as they search for clues and attempt to evade the famous Roblox monsters. The continuous survival game takes place in the Hollow, a map that grows more unsettling and twisted as the event progresses. Each day, a different monster will enter the map and chase down the players as they investigate and scour the map for evidence.

Every one of the nine monsters are figures from beloved Roblox horror games: The Deer from 99 Nights in the Forest, Seek from Doors, Twisted Dandy from Dandy’s World, Piggy from Piggy, The Inspector from Scary Shawarma Kiosk, Mimic from Animal Hospital, Biter from Demonology, Hiachi from The Mimic and The Overseer from Warden.

Throughout the event, players will be asked to complete quests in order to earn exclusive user-generated content items and rewards that they can use to help them survive another night in the Hollow.

Additionally, Roblox fans can follow along watching their favorite creators’ gameplay. Creator champions will be livestreaming their adventures from inside the Hollow each day, uncovering clues and helping players. Roblox’s announcement listed the following creators as participants in the event: NO_DATA, LimaMosca, VanilBean, Kreative Kyle, Bundun, Kim Left Arm, Kat, SirDapper, Itsjustnicholas, and KreekCraft.

The Hollow event is set to open at 2 p.m. PST on Thursday, launching its 9 day pre-Halloween run. The live finale will begin the morning of Halloween day, October 31. However, following the finale, players will still be able to continue collecting rewards until the event closes on November 2 at noon PST. Roblox Plus subscribers will be receiving early access to the event hub at noon PST on Thursday, according to Roblox’s press release.

The Hollow is open to players with Roblox Select or a Roblox account, ages 9 and older in most regions of the world. However, like many games on the UGC platform, access and ages may vary by region.

In tandem with the event, Halloween-themed avatar items will be on sale on the Marketplace for a limited time. The avatar items include dozens of exclusive items and new seasonal makeup looks for players to dress their avatars in.

Aside from the early hub access, Active Roblox Plus subscribers will also receive an exclusive profile frame and background and an item launcher to gift items to other players during the event. The frame and background will remain on player’s accounts even after the event has closed, so that players can bring Halloween spirit to Roblox at any time of the year.

For younger Roblox players who can’t yet enjoy the horror-themed offerings, Roblox is also launching Halloween events for players under 9. Family Zone’s Duck Duck Halloween crossover lets parents and kids hunt for hidden ducks in costumes while learning about online safety and parental controls. Adopt Me! is bringing back its Hauntlet minigame with new rewards and pets. Welcome to Bloxburg’s Halloween event includes the minigames Pumpkin Panic and Ghost Hunt, with personal and group rewards.

For Roblox fans looking to get involved in trick-or-treating this Halloween, the Roblox Mini Pack, now sold at Target, offers a candy-free option. Each $20 pack includes 40 physical coins, each redeemable for 50 Robux.

The Hollow runs through November 2 on Roblox.
