The organizers of the Tokyo Game Show announced that they are canceling the last day of the multi-day expo because of a typhoon.
Heavy winds and rain are expected to intensify (GamesBeat’s Alex Lee will be holed up in his room) and so the show organizers decided to drop the fifth day of the show.
“Given concerns about potential disruptions to public transportation, we have decided to cancel the event for the entire day, prioritizing the safety of all attendees, exhibitors, and staff,
as well as ensuring everyone can return home safely,” the organizers said.
Ticket refunds will be available for attendees for both Sunday and Monday (which is Saturday and Sunday, U.S. time). Clearly, the show will have fewer people this year than last year. On day three, TGS drew 78,000 attendees; on day two, 52,000 attended, and 53,000 attended on day one. All told, that adds up to about 183,000. It’s not clear how many attended on day four, while day five is canceled.
Last year, more than 263,000 people attended.
