One of the revelations in today’s Nintendo Direct was a new 2D Metroid game, called Metroid Ravenous. The new single-player game launches on Switch 2 on January 28, 2027.
The trailer shows Samus Aran using some kind of pink-coded power to “eat” her enemies, while also being stalked by mysterious enemy cadre in robes and wide-rimmed hats. The eShop description of the game reads: “Gather your arsenal, navigate a maze of corridors, hunt down powerful bosses, and use your newly awakened Metroid instincts to devour your foes.”
In addition to the game itself, Nintendo emphasized the amiibo that have been launched in relation to the game. These include Samus herself with her devouring powers activated, as well as a Chozo statue. Another Samus amiibo wearing a Metroid-based green chitinous suit is available exclusively with the Special Edition.
