Daniel Mullins, the creator of Inscryption, revealed our first extensive look at an upcoming sequel, Pony Island 2: Panda Circus. Mullins dropped a new trailer for the game at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event. It also revealed a launch date: April 27 of next year, over ten years after the launch of the original Pony Island.

The developer describes the game thus: “Pony Island 2: Panda Circus is a phantasmagorical voyage through time, myth, divinity, and video games. Escape the lordly deities of the underworld with your soul, and your sanity, intact. This is not a game about ponies.”

The trailer also confirmed several of the cast members, including SungWon Cho, Arian Moayed, Caitlin Reilly, and Kevin Saxby. Cho is the only one whose role has been confirmed: He’s playing Chinese deity of death King Yan. Presumably the other actors, who put in full-motion video performances, will play similarly thanatological beings, considering the description said “deities.”

Mullins first revealed Panda Circus in 2023 at The Game Awards, where we got our first look at its gameplay. After a few years of little announcements, it’s fitting that they would debut the next trailer on another of gaming’s most important events.
