At Gamescom 2026, Ubisoft announced the soft launch of The Player Council, a new
platform where players can be part of the PC game development process by connecting with
developers directly.
Participating players will be able to discover and weigh in on games at various stages of development, including new game concepts and prototypes as well as evolving experiences for existing games on PC. The Player Council gives players valuable insight into the development process and unprecedented access to shape a game in its earliest stages.
At the soft launch, four projects will be part of The Player Council: Riders Republic, Atomega, Codename Split Point, and Codename Rook. Later this year, in the fall, Codename Decagon and Codename Harlequin will also be added as playable projects in The Player Council.
This is just the beginning, with a range of small and large projects across different genres, major franchises and new innovative projects coming soon. It’s a big deal, since Ubisoft hasn’t had the best results making triple-A games for years in secret, only to see the games disappoint players upon launch. The pattern has hurt Ubisoft’s financial performance it has had to undertake a massive restructuring as a result.
How The Player Council works
The first step here is simple: any interested players can register for The Player Council for free at this link. Registration includes agreeing to an NDA, since many of the projects will be in very early stages of concept or development.
Once you’re registered, you can sign up to play different projects on the platform. If accepted by the project developers, you can begin to play and start sharing your feedback with the developers. The Player Council will also connect you with a community of other participating players, and you’ll have the opportunity to discuss ways to make the game even better. In turn, developers will share insight on their decision-making process as they evaluate and iterate on the project.
With The Player Council, the more you play and give constructive feedback, the more playable opportunities you’ll unlock. You’ll start with the Member Access Tier and by playing, sharing valuable feedback, and collaborating with other Player Council participants, you can unlock more opportunities at the Insider and Shaper Access Tiers, which include more sensitive projects and early-stage content.
What Games and Prototypes Are Part of The Player Council Soft Launch
The Player Council is soft-launching with two early prototypes and two live games, with
more prototypes and experiences coming over the next few months.
- Codename Split Point is an online multiplayer 1v1 PvP tactical turn-based concept, where players will make tactical decisions under time pressure. As the prototype isat a very early-concept stage, the team is hoping to hear players’ feedback on thecore game loop and what features are needed to potentially bring the game to market.
- Codename Rook is a single-player strategy experience, built around tactical decision-making, planning, and calculated play. It’s focused on strategic gameplay that rewards choices and adaptability. Presently at concept stage, players will be amongthe first to test its core gameplay loop, with their feedback helping the developmentteam refine and shape the experience.
Riders Republic is the massive multiplayer open world extreme sports playground featuring biking, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding and a lot more, and the team is looking forward to getting input on upcoming content.
Atomega is the 2017 fast-paced first-person multiplayer arena shooter with an
evolutionary twist.
The team behind Atomega recently announced the first new updates in nine years, and they
want to bring players along to help shape the next chapter for the game. Inspired by everyone who has continued to play, comment, and share about Atomega, the team is developing fresh content to bring more variety, more depth and more ways to play – and they believe this is just the starting point for building the future of Atomega with players.
Through The Player Council, the team will be testing new ideas, gathering player feedback
and suggestions, and then making changes and developing future content based on community input.
Codename Decagon, a chaotic co-op action game where physics gameplay meets creative
destruction, at a very early prototype stage, and Codename Harlequin, a co-op open-world
survival shooter at the concept stage, will join the platform later this fall, with more projects
added regularly.
There is no cost to test prototypes, while testing live game content is available to participants who already own the game.
The Player Council is powered by Ubisoft Connect and the community platform Games2Gether. As The Player Council evolves, it will add new features, tools, games and
prototypes, where you can give input on upcoming seasonal content, share your ideas with
the development teams, and experience the very heart of the game development process.
