Grand Theft Auto is driving business for Take-Two Interactive — and user-generated content is driving business for Grand Theft Auto.

In Take-Two Interactive’s earnings report for the first financial quarter of 2027 published today, August 7, the company credited “better-than-expected” performance by its NBA 2K and Grand Theft Auto series for “excellent” results in Q1, with recurrent consumer spending — a key metric for Take-Two — increasing by three percent across the Grand Theft Auto series during the quarter. Overall, Take-Two Interactive reported net bookings of $1.39 billion in the first financial quarter of 2027, with the company saying these numbers were above its guidance range of $1.32-37 billion.

“The Grand Theft Auto series once again exceeded expectations, and to-date, Grand Theft Auto V has sold-in over 230M units worldwide,” Take-Two’s earnings report said.

Take-Two’s Q1 2027 report specifically cited the addition of Rockstar Mission Creator, which it described as “an all-new suite of innovative and in-depth tools empowering the player community to bring missions to life,” as a source of engagement within GTA+, Rockstar Games’ subscription platform for GTA Online.

Roleplaying inside GTA Online servers has become a prominent activity for both large creators and rank-and-file gamers alike, with activity in GTA Online servers making Grand Theft Auto the most-streamed game on Twitch in 2024. Rockstar Mission Creator allows for more seamless integration of player-made experiences into the Grand Theft Auto player experience, with the service launching in December 2025 and releasing its first official suite of community-made missions in April 2026.

“The Mission Creator lets anyone craft complex and dynamic Objectives, set and control Actor behavior for NPCs, and make experiences for up to eight players at a time,” said Rockstar Games’ official press release announcing the launch of the Community Series pack of community-built experiences in April. “It also grants access to previously unavailable locations, including the deck of the USS Luxington Aircraft Carrier, the Cluckin’ Bell Factory, various banks, and more.”

Take-Two’s decision to highlight Rockstar Mission Creator in its Q1 2027 earnings call highlights the importance of Grand Theft Auto’s UGC tools for the company’s future vision — including its vision for Grand Theft Auto 6, which many industry observers and creators anticipate will include built-in UGC features. With GTA 6 slated to release on November 19, today’s earnings report was likely Take-Two Interactive’s penultimate report before the big release later this year.

“With Rockstar Games’ recent announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look coming on August 27th, we believe that consumers’ passion and anticipation for the next evolution of this iconic series will grow further leading up to the title’s November 19th release,” the earnings report said.

Players can expect more to come from Rockstar Mission Creator in 2026, with Rockstar Games inviting more players to be featured in its Community Series in its official press release.

“Expect more community-made Missions to land in the Series later this year and look out for a host of GTA Online events to come,” the press release said.
