Sony announced today that the price of the PlayStation 5 is going up in the U.S. effective August 21.
All three models will become $50 more expensive:
PlayStation 5 – $549.99
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99
In a blog post, vice president of global marketing at Sony Isabelle Tomatis attributes the price increases to “a challenging economic environment,” likely referencing U.S. tariffs under President Donald Trump.
Sony noted that it will not increase the price of PS5 accessories. Recently, Nintendo raised the cost of the original Switch 1 and other products and accessories, although the Switch 2 is unaffected for now.
