Origins
Genki began over eight years ago as a three-person team (Eddie Tsai, Christopher Yue and Andrew Geng). They launched a crowdfunding project on Kickstarter, where the firm was first to bring Bluetooth audio to the Nintendo Switch.
Since then, the company has released several high-profile Kickstarter campaigns that consistently ranked among the top gaming hardware projects year after year, including multimillion-dollar successes like the Covert Dock and ShadowCast series. In total, Ganki has raised over $8 million globally through crowdfunding. Today, the firm is a fully remote team with a presence in Los Angeles, Shanghai, Beirut, and Hong Kong.
The company is also one of the early pioneers in GaN (Gallium Nitride) technology, a more efficient alternative to the silicon modules found in conventional chargers. The company first showcased this innovation at CES 2020 in collaboration with Navitas, a GaN semiconductor company recently backed by Nvidia, by introducing a 30W GaN charger with a built-in Nintendo Switch dock—over 10 times smaller than the original dock and charger.
This technology allows chargers to run more efficiently, generate less heat, and be dramatically reduced in size. Since then, Genki has expanded the power capabilities to 45W with our Covert Dock 2, launched the first 100W flat GaN charger, and introduced the 240W Moonbase.
