PlayStation Network to go down for maintenance on Monday

Sony said today that the PlayStation Network will go down for scheduled maintenance on Monday, starting at 6 a.m. Pacific time.

The maintenance will last approximately 13 hours, ending around 7 p.m. Pacific time on Monday. During that time, players will not be able to access their accounts or play online. They also won’t be able to shop on the PlayStation Store or visit PlayStation Home, said Matthew Harper, a member of the newly formed digital platforms community management team at Sony.

“Our mission is to keep you better informed about everything that is going on in the wide world of the PlayStation Network, to make your voice heard within the company, and to ensure that you, the gamer, are at the heart of every development across PSN,” Harper wrote. “Together, we will help guide the future of this platform.”

That’s a pretty long time for the service to be down, but it’s not unusual. Sony fans pay a lot more attention to these routine announcements ever since Sony had a six-week outage last year in the wake of a hacker attack that compromised thousands of accounts. Sony said it will post updates on its blog and the PlayStation Twitter account.
