It’s beginning to look a lot like seasonal-event time for online games, and Overwatch is showing up with the return of its fan-favorite Winter Wonderland holiday festival. This will once again cover the King’s Row map in snow and holiday decorations, and Blizzard Entertainment has also confirmed that it has given a makeover to the Black Forest map to celebrate the gift-giving holidays.
Like last year’s Winter Wonderland, players can expect a chance to get a number of theme-appropriate legendary skins. For example, Mei and Tracer wear Santa hats and elf clothing. Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan is also promising new legendary skins are coming soon. Events like Winter Wonderland are important to a game like this because they keep players engaged and may convince some players to spend money on microtransactions. This enables Blizzard to keep the game running and profitable even as it gives away characters and maps at no additional charge.
