Destiny 2 is changing, and developer Bungie is reshaping it specifically for its most hardcore players. Since just after the first raid launched — which takes about 20 hours to 30 hours to get to — players have criticized the online shooter for a lack of worthwhile content. But now the studio is telling fans that it is listening, and it reiterated that some upcoming changes will benefit people who want to return to Destiny 2 every night.
This is important because Destiny 2 is one of the biggest releases in the $100 billion gaming industry. It is the best-selling retail game in the United States so far this year through October, according to industry-tracking firm The NPD Group. But publisher Activision is likely judging its success based more on how well it keeps players returning regularly to spend money on microtransactions. If people are dumping the game, that could have an impact on the Activision’s business.
