Artex today launched as a new indie publishing label, that aims to support smaller titles and developers in the start-up phase. The new publisher uses the name and some of the original talent of an older studio: Artex Entertainment, the developer of multiple PC games in the 90s.
Artex launched multiple games between 1997-99, including the strategy game Exodus and adventure game Ankh: The Tales of Mystery. The core team at the studio later became Trigger Lab, and then Deck 13. The newly revived Artex includes several industry veterans, including at least person from Deck 13, bringing the studio full circle.
Jan Klose, co-founder of Deck 13 and now Artex, said in a statement, “Back then, we developed games under the name Artex. More than a quarter of a century later, we want to discover and support young studios and start-ups in particular, because we see an incredible amount of creative potential here. Additionally, fair conditions and supporting business development are extremely important to us when working with others. With Artex, we are starting a whole new chapter.”
Artex plans to show off its first projects at Gamescom 2025. These include the console launch of Cralon, made in partnership with Pithead Studios. Its other partnerships include Freedom Burger Games for its couch co-op title American Cooking Simulator, Borb Games for its roguelike deckbuilder Wyrm Saga, and Sigma Unit for its 3D platformer Blob the Klex.
