Zynga has acquired the assets of Five Mobile, a Toronto-based developer of mobile apps. The new team will be known as Zynga Toronto and will spearhead the company’s efforts to recruit developers in Canada. And it’s part of Zynga’s continuing expansion into mobile games in an effort to diversify beyond Facebook games.

The team at Five Mobile has experience in mobile apps. The Five Mobile team is led by Ameet Shah, who will not report to David Ko, head of Zynga mobile. Shah’s team will focus on various mobile initiatives within Zynga.

The deal is Zynga’s 15th acquisition in 13 months. This one shows that Zynga is willing to expand overseas as it adds to its workforce of 2,200 people. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. To date, Zynga’s biggest acquisition was the $53 million purchase of Newtoy, maker of Words with Friends. That purchase price information is available only because Zynga filed to raise at least $1 billion in an initial public offering last week.
