One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. In the case of The Last Story, it was Nintendo’s trash, as it decided to pass on bringing it to the U.S., and publisher Xseed’s treasure, as the role-playing game is now that company’s biggest hit.
Xseed announced today that it released a new version of the action-RPG from developer Mistwalker for $29.99. This new release doesn’t include the 44-page art book that came with the original game. Xseed is dropping the price on that version to $39.99.
“The Last Story has been an amazing title for Xseed Games, and it has become our most successful title to date,” said Xseed Games executive vice president Ken Berry. “This is a must have title for RPG fans, and we’re looking forward to more players discovering the magic that lies in Lazulis Island.”
The Last Story is one of the latest creations from veteran Final Fantasy designer Hironobu Sakaguchi. It follows a band of mercenaries as they attempt to find treasure and fame, and naturally, events don’t turn out as the characters hope.
This title, along with RPGs Xenoblade Chronicles and Pandora’s Tower, were part of a fan campaign in North America called “Operation Rainfall,” which primarily worked to get Nintendo to bring the three Japanese games to this continent. Nintendo eventually published Xenoblade Chronicles in the States. To date, Pandora’s Tower is the only one of the three to never see a North American release.
