If you want to air a 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl, it’s going to cost you — but at least one mobile game developer decided it is worth the price.
Machine Zone aired a new commercial for its Game of War strategy app, which is a free-to-play download on iOS and Android. The spot went live during the first quarter of NFL’s biggest game of the year (and the biggest TV event as well), and it once again starred swimsuit model Kate Upton as a goddess asking you to join her in the fight. NBC, the network airing the football match, charged $4.5 million for a 30-second spot, which makes this one of the most expensive single commercials ever for a video game.
